Upcoming Adoption Days ~

Next adoption day is Saturday, August 30th, at the Faribo West Mall in Faribault, MN from 10 to 3. We have lots of wonderful dogs that need homes.

We would like to give a large and heartfelt Thank You to the James J. Wolf Family Foundation for Animals Fund of the Central Minnesota Community Foundation for their recent generous donation. The donation will go directly to the recent vet bills accumulated by some of our dogs.

Some of the unexpected costs S.A.F.E. Sanctuary has experienced lately include two Cesarean sections, a female dog with a severe systemic infection, a litter of very ill puppies, and a dog with mange, along with the ongoing spays, neuters, and dental work performed on our adoptable dogs. The generous donation provided by the James J. Wolf Family Foundation has helped us cover many of these costs.

Thank You from all the animals and volunteers of S.A.F.E. Sanctuary

Petfinder is updated daily, we get a lot of amazing dogs in frequently, and they do get adopted fast. If you see someone that you are interested in contact us immediately, if they are not posted the next day it is because they have been adopted.

Our Featured Dog...

Lucas is a 2 to 3 yr old purebred Jack Russell with very short legs (an Irish Shorty). Lucas is a good natured, independent, inquisitive guy. He is extremely cute, quiet most of the time, and likes to join you on the couch or bed without being needy. Lucas loves a good game of tug of war, having his back scratched, and going for walks. He gets along well with the other dogs and has been good with the grandkids in his foster home. Because he does like to sneak out the door to go explore, we are looking for a home with either a fenced yard or without young kids that would open the door for him. Lucas is house trained, crate trained, neutered, current on vaccinations and microchipped. His adoption fee is 200.00. Feel free to fill out an application at www.safesanctuary.org.

SAFE Sanctuary has been a active group since March of 2004 and in that short time we have rehomed over 1600 loving dogs and cats. We never dreamed that what we do was so needed! There are huge expenses that go with this, many dogs have to be treated for heartworm and other ailments. It is not the dogs fault that they were not properly cared for, so we feel that it is our duty as rescuers to get these animals healthy and into forever homes. Even if you cannot adopt at this time, please feel free to make a donation to any of these wonderful animals.

Who We Are

S.A.F.E. Sanctuary is a group of local people who have banded together to Save Animals From Euthanasia. Our goal is to find good forever homes for homeless pets. We are a foster based rescue so we can only take in animals as room is available. We work with animals on behavior issues when ever possible. Since we are a no kill group, we do everything possible to find homes for the animals. Unfortunately, we are unable to take in dogs that have a history of aggression or biting. The dogs are not kept in kennels, they are all fostered in our homes. All pets are vetted, altered, individualized and spoiled rotten!! Many of our animals come from High Kill shelters where they would have been euthanized if we had not rescued them. This is their chance at a new home, they are great dogs who's only flaw was their color, size or location. All of these dogs are in foster care, where they are socialized with other animals, we work on housebreaking, and obedience training so they will make fantastic family pets! We do our best to make sure all animals are healthy prior to going to their new homes. However, there is no guarantee when adopting an animal, there are things that veterinarians miss. We recommend re-worming along with an exam by your regular vet within 5 days of the adoption. Medical needs may come up at the new owners expense, it is part of being a pet parent. Many of these dogs came from very poor situations, their lives depend on us and their new owners.

Adopting a friend

Adoption fees vary per animal. To adopt drop us an e-mail or give us a call. We will set up a time for you to come and meet the friend you are interested in. We do ask for references and you must have landlord approval. If we feel it is a good match we will complete the adoption, and we do request follow-ups on all adoptions. We also have the right to refuse an adoption, as we live with these animals and know their needs better then anyone else at this time. Our goal is a forever home for each animal in our program.

Surrendering a pet

Unfortunately we do not take in unwanted cats or kittens, we do not have foster care available for them.

S.A.F.E. Sanctuary does take in owner surrender dogs. Please remember we are a small group and do not always have foster space available. For information on surrendering a dog please call 507-334-7901 or 507-333-5058. We will not take in dogs that have shown any aggression towards humans or other dogs. Since the dogs live in a foster home we can not risk injury to our foster parents or the other dogs in the foster home.

S.A.F.E. Sanctuary has instituted a new vaccination policy. All dogs leaving S.A.F.E. Sanctuary are vaccinated with a 5 way Parvo/Distemper combo and are HW tested. S.A.F.E. Sanctuary will no longer be vaccinating dogs with a Rabies vaccine effective June 1st 2007. Dogs will need to be vaccinated and registered by their new families. We are making this policy change with the intent that adoptive families will take this first step in establishing a relationship between their new companion and their vet soon after adoption.

Our health guarantee will remain the same, and is listed in our adoption contract.

S.A.F.E. Sanctuary spays or neuters all animals before adoption.
